About me

Hi! I’m Viggo Appel, a 25-year-old freelance filmmaker and photographer with a passion for turning ideas into visual stories. After studying film through a three-year audiovisual programme in Rotterdam and a one-year bachelor in Newcastle, I discovered how powerful the connection between image, sound, and emotion can be and I’ve been obsessed ever since.

Music has always played a big role in my life, and I love exploring the synergy between film and sound. The right track can transform a moment, elevate a scene, and make a story unforgettable. That mix of visuals and music inspires much of my work.

Work that I’m proud of

I highlight projects that show how varied my work can be. For Libertat, a minimalist post-punk duo, I captured the raw, chaotic energy of their live performances in six gritty videos. For an alignment based yoga teacher, I translated the calm precision of her practice into serene imagery filmed both indoors and outdoors. Working on two complete opposites taught me how to adapt my visual style to each world. Whether loud or quiet, while still creating compelling, authentic stories.

Alongside my video work, I also capture a variety of moments for different clients in the same visual style. Whether documenting intimate sessions, creative processes or personal stories, I focus on atmosphere, emotion and authentic detail. This consistent aesthetic allows each photo series to feel both personal and part of a cohesive artistic approach.
